Valley Center CERT

Welcome to Valley Center CERT.

CERT stands for Community Emergency Response Team. The Valley Center CERT members are trained for various levels of emergency preparedness. We are comprised of ordinary citizens wishing to contribute to their community in times of need.

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT members also are encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community.

Valley Center CERT holds periodic training drills and has already assisted local government agencies such as the Fire Deptartment and Water District during the October 2011 power blackout. CERT members provided immediate (10 seconds)  communications to paramedics during an incident at the 2011 Western Days Parade involving a skateboarder and a vintage firetruck.
